RED

The "RED One" has the ability to record at resolutions up to 4 x HD at 1-30fps (the "RED Epic" 5 x HD at 1-120fps) directly to flash or HDD storage and features a single Super 35 sized "MYSTERIUM-X" CMOS sensor. As well as the native raw "R3D" files the RED produces QuickTime wrapped files for viewing or offline use.

Pre Shoot

The RED codec is constantly evolving and it would be useful for us to know which version of camera firmware is being used.

Please treat the RED as you would a film camera as there can be time and cost implications in leaving the camera running.

We ask for "time of day" timecode with cameras labelled logically. This can help to minimise errors in the data transfer and duplication in EDL.

Consider a staggered delivery of digital rushes to optimise ingest onto our servers for larger projects.

We request the full 16 character "RED" reel names in the EDL from offline with file names as generated by camera (please see our EDL guide).

Workflow to Offline

We are able to transcode and process to all DI formats for the majority of offline workflows.

Workflow towards Online

RED shoots REDCODE RAW and we can advise you how best to process your footage pre-grade (logarithmic or linear colour-space).

Once we receive the EDL we process the selects using Data Sq's own proprietary software "R3dit". This generates industry standard DPX files for grading in-suite or Telecine.
