Pause For Thought
Barney Cokeliss, working through Scottish production company Cask, came to Golden Square with a script full to the brim with time-slice shots. Shot over two days the film demanded an intensive schedule of post production.
The first scene required the creation of the street outside the window. Utilising 3D camera tracking throughout, lead Flame artist Fasa Oyibo, constructed the street environment from high-res stills in 3D space to create the accurate perspective change. The time-slice shot within this scene was re-constructed using a number of layers. Shot separately in a green screen studio the move around the frozen boy had to be rebuilt using only 12 frames from the time-slice that most accurately matched the live action shot. Fasa re-constructed the move, by replacing the boys arm and paper plane.
A similar technique was used with the fish tank - just on a much larger scale - this shot demanded an even greater amount of reconstruction due to the complex nature of the shot. In addition to the reconstruction, this shot required complex compositing of 3 different formats 35m, HDV & 17 digital SLR cameras.
