Golden Square's Direct Approach
Dan Love and Tim Rudgard used their post production experience to produce and direct three commercials for Finnish baking giant Fazer. Working closely with the creative team of Mikko Halonen and Sami Korus of Sek Grey Helsinki, GSQ took a tight deadline and an even tighter budget to create these fabulous 20 spots.
The brief for the films, commissioned by Merja Metsavarra Mildh of Front Desk, was to discover a way to visualise the sensation of Nordic nature that is brought to mind when eating Fazers Piukala bread. As Dan explains:
It was a very open brief but with limited resources in terms of footage, we didnt have the budget to shoot fields of Rye in summer, or Lapland in the winter.
Tim continued:
I think the restrictions made it a more creative process, seeing what we could create with a small number of stills and bags of imagination.
Dan made an initial trip over to Finland to discuss the boards and concept then Tim travelled over to shoot the actors on Red Camera in a small green screen studio. Once back at GSQ he cut the films on Final Cut Pro. It was then into flame to separate the different stills into elements, combining them with the 3D camera movement and creating a highly stylised look. Mike Little provided fluid reveals as well as 3D elements, such as butterflies, opening flowers and pollen in Maya.
Two of the 3 commercials can be viewed above, the third will be on air shortly.
