The count down has begun!

In an obvious homage to the opening sequence of Chariots of Fire, The Sun has launched its countdown to the 2012 Olympics.

From the opening bars of the Vangelis soundtrack to the beautiful cinematography of the lonely beach runner, we are reminded of the original movie instantly. Things take a more comedic turn when the milkman runs into frame, followed by a baker, a dentist and people from a wide range of professions.....

The beach is full now behind our hero, in a glorious, celebratory procession. With a cheeky nod to the original film, Nigel Havers pops his face out from behind the paper, to give a knowing wink ending on an uplifting frame “2012 is here, let’s make it Great Britain”.

Golden Square was originally approached before the shoot to suggest ways to populate the beach more in post, 60 extras can get lost quickly in the vast expanse of a beach! We pulled extra plates from other takes and composited them into the edit. Along with the standard clean ups we also had to enhance the red and blue flares that the soldiers are holding.

Lead Smoke Artist Danny Etherington comments, “It’s great when an ad can stir up such emotion successfully, drawing on previous associations of course, but with a lighter twist. I look forward to working with Guy, Zak and Richard again”.
